I used to run from a young age and then running was part of the job in the military. I always enjoyed off road running and wanted bigger adventures, so I saw the Welsh 1000m Peaks race advertised and thought 'I’ll give that a go'. That’s when I joined the WFRA as I wanted to get out more because I loved doing the 1000m Peaks. I had a bit of a break from running for a few years—literally—because I broke my leg and ankle skydiving, but have built back up and I'm running almost pain free now.
I got involved as Membership Secretary in 2020 after seeing a request for interest and thought I’d help out for a couple of years – little did I know I’d still be doing it now!
It can be quite demanding, especially in the autumn/winter when the membership renewals flood in and the calendar is ready to send out, or when people join and expect their membership number instantly in order to get a discount for a race tomorrow! Unfortunately we currently don’t have automatic processing, it’s down to me. I do get it wrong from time to time (apologies!) but I'm pleased to be able to give back and support other fell runners.
